The Renaissance Learning website hosts several Accelerated Reader practice quizzes. The practice quizzes are designed to simulate the actual reading assessments students take.
The assessments provide a diagnostic of how well students comprehend a book at a certain reading level. Accelerated Reader practice quizzes and assessments are available on any computer or laptop connected to the Internet as well as tablets at least as large as 7 inches. The available practice quizzes are suitable for students reading at the elementary, middle school or high school level, depending on the book title chosen. For example, "Honey for Baby Bear" is a title appropriate for elementary school children, while "Of Mice and Men" is for readers at a high school level.
The site also offers three-question practice quizzes that are suitable for early readers. The quizzes offer a recorded voice option that reads the questions and answers. Renaissance Learning offers tests for an extensive list of book titles covering both fiction and non-fiction.
In preparation for taking the Accelerated Reader quizzes, students read the target titles closely, learning to build on their reading skills. Access to the actual reading quizzes necessitates a user name and password issued by the school, which has to purchase licensing rights.
More From Reference. What Is Blockchain Technology?Renaissance Learning offers online quizzes and tests for their Accelerated Reader program; these tests can be taken at home or anywhere one can access the Internet. Access to the Renaissance Learning site is free, and there are multiple free quizzes available on the website, including quizzes that cover topics, such as reading practice for different reading levels, early reader quizzes, vocabulary practice and literacy skills quizzes.
The Renaissance Learning Accelerated Reader program also has a desktop software version that is typically used as school under teacher supervision, meaning these quizzes are typically not available to be taken at home. The Accelerated Reader program is a proprietary learning tool that is used to assess a student's reading level and pair that student with specific books and other reading materials that matches the level displayed on the assessment quiz.
There are also components of the program, including quizzes, that are designed to determine whether students have actually completed reading assignments. The free quizzes available on the Renaissance Learning website represent a small part of the total available program and may not be a viable alternative to actually going through the full program. Critics of the Accelerated Reader program have noted that the program seems largely designed to focus on recall for the final assessment quizzes.

Well, let's start with WHY I'm doing this. I'm a computer programmer yes, at 13 years old and my school adopted the AR program when I was in 5th grade I'm in 8th nowso since I had to get x amount of points to maintain a good average. Now, I didn't mind too much about the reading part, BUT, instead of reading my computer books, I had to read all of these fiction books that didn't help me at all!
I could have stacked my computer books that I wanted to read up to two feet thick! So, you see my problem? I'm an efficient person, I don't waste my time, and I wasn't about to let this stand in my way!
So, you might also ask HOW I came up with the system? Well, in my reading classroom where you take teststhere are 3 computers next to eachother. All three are used for taking tests. Some of my friends and I sometimes sat next to each other and took the same tests. We noticed the the choices were randomized what choice would be A one time, could be C the nextbut we were about to look at the text and still cheat.
This method, however, was not robust. The teacher could see that we were taking a test on the same book and were on the same question.

Book Adventure I don't think AR is free online, because schools have to pay to use it, or buy it on cd or something. But BookAdventure is similar, and probably includes some of the same books, with similar quizzes.

The Zone of Proximal Development ZPD suggests the readability-level range from which a student should be selecting books for optimal growth in reading without frustration.
Students choose books within their reading range and take a quiz on each book when they have finished. This must be taken within 2 days of finishing the book to ensure it is a test of the students comprehension of the book. Quizzing after the 2 day rule leads to poor quiz results as it becomes more of a memory test rather than a comprehension test.

I think I remember someone posting a website that students can take quizzes similar to AR reading quizzes, but they are free. From what I remember, the website awards points for the books. My problem is our school has not updated its AR reading quiz list in several years.
Many of the books that I have in my classroom library are not in the quiz list, which I think is discouraging my students from reading books that they may be interested in but don't receive any points. I also have been reading aloud some books that have many points, but again, we don't have the quiz.
My co-teacher and I are working together, though, to increase our students desire to read more. Please let me know if you know of this website. This site looks like it may do for just one class and it's FREE!! I will give it a try! I was quite excited, then disappointed. I love AR, but my school does not have it - sigh.
